GenCon 2025: Haly's FULL Event Schedule
The GenCon event catalog has gone live, and with nearly a week until registration officially opens, ALL OF HALY'S EVENTS have been added, including yarn dyeing, worldbuilding, and Crafty Villainous!
Fantastic news: my yarn dyeing classes have been added to the GenCon Event Catalog!
A short and sweet update for all of you who’ve been asking, waiting, and wondering: My Saturday yarn dyeing classes have officially hit the GenCon Event Catalog!
As usual, the theme was chosen by discussions in last year’s classes: Wine and Cheese!
I’m also very pleased to announce that, despite all of the trials and tribulations associated with dyeing two skeins in each class last year…. We’re doing it again this year!
Sort of.
Everyone will be dyeing one full 100 g. skein (wine) with a DIPPED OMBRE technique, never taught at GenCon before! In addition, we will also be dyeing one 20 g. MINI skein with a WET SPECKLE technique, ALSO never taught at GenCon before!!
Saturday Morning: Rosé & Roquefort
Join me ‘bright and early’ (10 am, lol) on Saturday for the first of two new dyeing classes. We’ll dip-and-drip our way into beautiful shades of soft pinky-peach on a full-sized skein of British Bluefaced Leicester (nylon blend). We will also create a mini-size skein of veiny, speckly blue-on-natural for all the beauty of a well-aged bleu, without the smell!
THERE WILL BE AT LEAST AN HOUR WAIT while the yarn “cooks” and the dye sets; plenty of time to work on your WIP or grab a meal!
Saturday Afternoon: Merlot and Muenster
Who wants to be wandering the halls at GenCon on Saturday afternoon? Certainly not you! In the afternoon class, we’ll be repeating the same dip-and-drip techniques learned in the morning, on the same yarn, but with different colors! This 2 pm class will have a rich red-violet ombré dip to represent the bold body of a merlot, while the cheese will get a yellow-orange wet speckle drip technique for the cheese.
As with the morning class, THERE WILL BE AT LEAST AN HOUR WAIT as the yarn “cooks” and the dye sets; unfortunately GenCon won’t let you schedule a game, so grab a bite to eat instead!
(Summer’s on the horizon and my fridge is on the fritz. If there’s a bit extra in your budget, could you spare some for the tip jar? Every little bit helps!)
My NEW “Worldbuilding for Writers and Gamers” Workshop
This year, I’ve written a brand-new workshop to help storytellers get a handle on their worldbuilding. Whether you’re worldbuilding for a novel or for a game setting, I’ll be teaching you a proven 4-point foundation to help you flesh out any world, in any genre and tone, of any size, for any story.
Creative thinking is a skill, which means it can be developed and improved through dedicated practice. Through hands-on practice, collaborative exercises, and instructor feedback (for those who want it), this workshop will give you the foundational skills you need — the practice is up to you!
Yes, Virginia, there is a Crafty Villainous
Of course, Crafty Villainous is returning! Bring your SMALL craft project — lap-sized knitting or crochet project, embroidery, etc. — and enjoy long stretches of time between turns in this MASSIVE game of Disney Villainous.
This event is a labor of love, a gift to the sliver of my community where crafting and gaming intersect. I’ve started doing little gift bags to show my appreciation for how much y’all love this event. Last year, everyone got a skein of hand-dyed yarn that matched their game mover. This year…well, you’ll just have to attend to see!
