Quick Six: Weather Wonders
Haly shares six quick writing prompts guaranteed to set you wondering about weather! Perfect inspiration for stories, world-building, music; art in any medium.
And just like that, there went the day!
I helped my dad and step-mom move today. They only just got married, and needed a bigger place…so they moved two doors down in their retirement community. I came home, relaxed, and now here it is this late on the night we ‘fall back’ (in the US).
Let’s get ready to celebrate the extra long nights!
Quick Six 11/2/2024
This week has been all about weather, and so are these creative prompts! However you use them, don’t forget to share your creations with me! I always love seeing what you’re up to.
Who:
…who keeps track of the weather? Is their job or a hobby? Does it require formal education, or folk knowledge?
What:
…what tools are used to observe — or even control! — the weather? Are there special weather satellites like in Star Trek? Is there a school of magic dedicated to meteorological arts? Is the weather in your world controlled by cats?!
When:
…a time when a sudden change in the weather coincided with a sudden change in a character’s life. Maybe a snowstorm caused an accident, or perhaps a thunderstorm caused them to meet cute. Might a tornado set off a heart attack?
Where:
…a place that is known for volatile weather. In the US, we have the midwestern states and their tornadoes, the southeast and its hurricanes,
Why:
…why is the weather celebrated in your main culture? Do they welcome the rains after the dry season? Is the summer sun a sign of better times? Could the darkest night of winter spark a seasonal spree?
How:
…how do people protect themselves from the weather? Oiled cloth stretched over whale bones like early umbrellas? Personal energy shields that keep body heat in and elements out?
Don’t forget to share with me!
My favorite part is always seeing what you do with these inspirations, so don’t forget to drop a link to your writing, world-building, art, or other creation in the comments!!
