Wonderful video! I think you proved the idea rather well. I hadn't considered world building in non fiction but it gives me a bunch of ideas for a historically true book I was thinking of writing. For ATB, do you think world descriptions are less necessary in a contemporary fiction/non fiction setting. Agatha Christie might explain an area or basics of local custom but she doesn't spend too much time on the world at large. Is this because the audience of her day would have understood it all? Are we, in fact, missing context to some of her stories due to the time gap between now and then?

TL;DR: I will begin by reminding readers that William Shakespeare wrote both narrative non-fiction (the Henrys and the Richards, etc.) and contemporary fiction.

Is his humor and meaning lost due to lack of context?

Abso-fucking-llutely!!! But also, no.

I'll go deeper in tonight's “Ask the Bard!”
